Questions and answers

Is Maru free?

Yes, with no subscription, no ads, and no limit on items. You can leave a tip if you like, but a tip unlocks nothing.

Do I need an account?

No. Open Maru and add what you take.

Where is my data?

Your items and records stay on your iPhone. The privacy page has the details.

Why not an alarm or Apple Health?

An alarm rings, but it does not know what you took. Apple Health does much more, and Maru does one small job: it shows what to take now, and one tap records it.

Can I record from the reminder?

Yes, when the reminder is for one item: tap Taken. A reminder for several items opens Maru.

Will Maru keep reminding me?

Turn on Remind Again in Settings, and Maru sends up to 12 more reminders for a dose. Maru is not an alarm, so silent mode or a Focus can hold a reminder.

What if I forget to record?

You can record later or change the recorded time.

Does Maru tell me what to take?

No. Maru gives no medical advice: you enter what you take, and Maru reminds you.

Does Maru count the pills I have left?

No. Maru reminds and records, and nothing more.

How do I move to a new iPhone?

In Maru's Settings on the old iPhone, tap Back Up and save the file. On the new iPhone, tap Restore from Backup and choose that file. This replaces the items and records already in Maru on that iPhone. The file is not encrypted, so keep it private.

Can I get my records out?

Yes. Export Records in Settings makes a file that Numbers and Excel can open.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

No. Maru is an iPhone app, and it does not sync between devices.

Which languages does Maru speak?

English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, German, and Korean.

Is Maru open source?

Yes. The code is on GitHub under the MIT license.
